Reflecting on Thruxton’s Clio Rounds 5&6, as well as a look forward to Fiesta rounds at Rockingham this weekend!

After another highly successful weekend in the Renault Clio Cup championship, Ant Whorton-Eales comes away with a double victory at Thruxton; a circuit that hasn’t been kind to him in recent years. Race one started with an impressive launch off the line from fifth, which saw Ant battling for 1st place by only the 3rd corner, at which he passed Rivett and held the lead until the race ended on a red flag, 2 laps from the designated finish. Race two saw an equally bullet-like reaction start as the lights turned green, but this time it was 2nd place that Ant had to battle for throughout the race. As Bushell lead from a considerable distance, Whorton-Eales chased bumper-to-bumper with Rivett, with Price close behind, and making the occasional move, which Ant soon reciprocated to hold onto his podium spot. A sudden mistake by Rivett meant he lost control of his car and slid across the track trying to tame it, by which time Ant and a handful of other followers passed him by. Nearing the end of the race, Bushell had built up quite a considerable lead, but was given a five second penalty for exceeding track limits. This put Ant in a great position, and he now held P1 on time difference, despite being behind the race "leader". Knowing this, the AWE and JamSport driver tried to make up as much time as he could, to ensure he'd take the victory. Luck does sometimes go in JamSports favour...

Whorton-Eales commented: “That’s a bit of a cruel way for Mike to lose the win as he’d really built up a lead over the rest of us but I got a pit board signal a few laps from home telling me he’d got a penalty so I pushed as hard as I could and it worked out for me. A win this morning and another this afternoon on a circuit which hasn’t been the best for me in the past – it’s the perfect day.”

Luke Kidsley (GBR) JamSport Renault Clio Cup

Ant wasn’t the only JamSport driver to shine at the weekend, Graham “racing driver extraordinaire” Field performed exceptionally in both races and the team has seen a significant improvement in his pace in the opening 3 rounds of the championship. Luke Kidsley had a disappointing qualifying session on the Saturday which put him on the back foot for both races. After making up 9 positions Luke unfortunately ended the first race in a collision at the last chicane. With the car suffering high impact damage, JamSport stepped up to the challenge and managed to get the car back out for race 2 in good time. The atmosphere in the JamSport camp is at an all-time high, the passion and determination from every team member has a real positive effect on the whole operation.

The team now head to Rockingham for the BRSCC Ford Fiesta championship looking to build on their strong performances so far this season. JamSport owner Jamie Going is so close to securing his maiden victory after finishing 2nd and 3rd at the last round, his performances deserve him a top step on the podium and the whole team are excited to see the “boss” get his first win in the championship. Aaron Thompson will be fighting at the front end once again for sure as he’ll be looking to build on his championship points. Myles Baker, Ryan Faulconbridge and Mark Godfrey will all be looking to be fighting at the sharp end of the grid and build on their championship campaign’s as well. In the other half of the Jamsport awning we have our JamSport Junior drivers who have all been excelling on track. Harry Gooding will be hoping to get himself on the podium once again as will Callum Hawkins Row as they both have shown incredible pace. The team are also really looking forward to seeing the return of Angus Dudley as he has shown great improvement in the short time he has been with us. Good luck to all of our drivers this weekend.
